Posted on Feb 18, 2015 in Equipment, Featured, Technology

Drivewyze has added 22 agricultural inspection stations in Florida to its PreClear bypass service. The new sites join its 440 weigh stations and inspection sites in 33 states across the country. Drivewyze recently reached an agreement with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement (OALE) allowing qualified carriers to bypass the Florida agriculture interdiction sites using Drivewyze PreClear. The OALE will allow qualified fleets to bypass agriculture inspection sites through the mobile inspection site bypass service. Drivewyze already began offering truck fleets and operators weigh station bypass service at 19 fixed interstate locations in Florida last year. “The agricultural site bypasses are delivered as part of the standard Drivewyze bypass service,” said Drivewyze president Brian Heath. “There’s no additional sign-up process, and no lengthy paperwork or extra fees required.” All carriers that...

Hyundai looking to get into the heavy truck fray?

Posted on Feb 18, 2015 in Equipment, Featured

Truck sales in 2014 outpaced most expectations, and 2015 is shaping up to be another banner year. With commercial sales opportunities on the rise, it makes sense that more people are wanting to get into the dance. In the short 40-plus days of 2015, Penske has acquired a handful of Freightliner locations, and dealerships aren’t the only ones getting into the act. Reuters reported Tuesday that South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Co. is investing $1.8 billion over the next five years in a commercial vehicle effort. That investment includes entering the U.S. marketplace – Hyundai’s second-biggest overseas market behind China. In a statement released Monday, Hyundai says it plans to introduce “premium models in North America and Europe.” What those models are, what they may look like or when that may take place is anyone’s guess. The company’s standard for “premium” is...

Posted on Oct 14, 2014 in Featured, Safety

During the week of Oct. 19-25, law enforcement agencies across North America will participate in Operation Safe Driver Week, sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA). Operated in partnership with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), with support from trucking industry and other transportation safety organizations, the weeklong effort is aimed at increasing traffic safety enforcement and education by commercial truck drivers and passenger-vehicle drivers. In 2012, more than 4,100 people were killed and 126,000 were injured in large truck and bus crashes on the nation’s roadways, with many of those accidents the direct result of the drivers — both truck and bus drivers, as well as the passenger-vehicle drivers — operating unsafely around them. CVSA’s Operation Safe Driver program was created to help to combat the number of deaths resulting from crashes involving large trucks,...

Trucking for a low-carbon economy

Posted on Oct 1, 2014 in Equipment, Featured, Safety, Technology

Today, the Carbon War Room takes another positive step towards a low-carbon economy as they announce an exciting joint effort with the North American Council for Freight Efficiency. Operation Trucking Efficiency has been a two-year collaborative project between the two organisations. It aims to increase the adoption of fuel saving technologies among truck owners and operators in order to double the efficiency of their fleets – reducing the industry’s annual fuel costs ($105 billion) and carbon emissions (1.6 billion metric tonnes of CO2). The launch of Operation Trucking Efficiency was marked with the release of TruckingEfficiency.org – a free, independent, online guide to help fleet owners learn about 70 trucking efficiency technologies. Depending on which technologies fleet owners decide to use, savings of 30-50% in fuel costs can be realised. All of these efficiency technologies are already available...
